DANIEL'S 1290 "DAYS"
You have arrived in the presentation section. For a more in-depth discussion of these subjects please click here.

Let's try a couple more Old Testament math problems from Daniel to see if we can confirm the method we used in Daniel's 69 "weeks".

(KJV) Daniel 12:11: And from the time [that] the daily [sacrifice] shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, [there shall be] a thousand two hundred and ninety days.
(Tanach) -  Daniel 12:11 And from the time the daily sacrifice was removed and the silent abomination placed, is one thousand, two hundred, and ninety.

Sacrifices were suspended three times in the Old Testament:  once before Daniel (Chronicles 28:24-25), once during the Babylonian captivity in 583 BC (Chronicles 36:19 and Ezra 3:6), and once, about four hundred years later, by the Greek king Antiochus Epiphanies.
Let's try the 583 BC date considering that it was the abolition of sacrifices with which Daniel was directly familiar. (note on the 583 date)

1290 x .9857 (adjust 360 to 365.24 day years) = 1271.5 years.
Subtracting 583 BC we arrive again at 688.5 AD.
The founding year of The Dome of the Rock -

1290 x .9857 = 1271.5 - 583 = 688.5

THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION

Daniel and John's prophecies were written over 500 years apart, yet the two books unite with mathematical precision - both prophets pinning the year 688 AD - that was hundreds of years in John's future and over a thousand years in Daniel's future!

Day-year "language" of prophecy

Ezekiel 4:5  For I have laid upon thee the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days: so shalt thou bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.

Ezekiel 4:6  And when thou hast accomplished them, lie again on thy right side, and thou shalt bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days: I have appointed thee each day for a year.

Numbers 14:34  After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, [even] forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, [even] forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

Genesis 29:27  Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

Additionally Exodus alludes to a week of days as years:

Exodus 23:10  And six years thou shalt sow thy land, and shalt gather in the fruits thereof:
Exodus 23:11  But the seventh [year] thou shalt let it rest and lie still; that the poor of thy people may eat: and what they leave the beasts of the field shall eat. In like manner thou shalt deal with thy vineyard, [and] with thy oliveyard.

Prophetic Calendar

Many Christians use a "prophetic calendar" for at least one Old Testament day-year problem.  This may stem from Genesis chapters 7 and 8 where we are given 5 months of 30 days each, totaling 150 days, indicating a 360 day year.  So WHAT IF the Lord  intended for us to use this 360 day calendar for our "language" in Old Testament prophecy?"

To reconcile a 360 day prophetic year, with the 365.24 day solar year of our historical record, we divide  360 by 365.24 = .9857 to arrive our multiplier.

Genesis 7:11  In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
Genesis 7:24  And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
Genesis 8:4  And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.

Abolution of sacrifices:
In Jeremiah 41:5 we learn "... from Shechem, from Shiloah, and from Samaria, even fourscore men ... with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the LORD.  Those men came to the temple at the end of the governorship of Gedaliah (seven to ten months after the temple was burned), so it would seem there were some purified priests in Jerusalem who were still carrying on.
Two more years pass, then in Jeremiah we read:  Jeremiah 52:30  In the three and twentieth year of Nebuchadnezzar, ... the captain of the guard carried away captive of the Jews seven hundred forty and five persons.

nebuchadnezzar ascended the throne of Babylon in 606-605 BC.  Twenty-three years later is 583 BC.  So this final captivity of 583 BC is a scripturally supportable time for the sacrifices to have been abolished.
